Hollow House
Architecture + Construction
Case Study
Organized around an interior courtyard that creates a hollowed void in the center of the residence, this Beacon Hill carriage house was intensely renovated to receive a new modern and minimalist interior throughout. Historical elements were preserved especially at the entry to create a “threshold into modernity”.
New floor-to-floor layouts, fixtures and finishes were designed and implemented throughout both levels. The unique existing courtyard became a Zen garden onto which folding glass walls were installed at the ground level. Re-integrating the courtyard gives the house the ability to open itself completely in warm weather. The future penthouse addition will further allow the owners to reach out and connect to environment outdoors.
